As of Monday, my AC is fixed! Weeeeeee!!!!!

Relief is spelled "a-i-r-c-o-n-d-i-t-i-o-n-i-n-g"

GAAAAACKKK!!! hot hot hot hot!!

When I moved into my new place a month ago, I told the maintenance department that my AC wasn't working. No amount of cajoling or pleading has worked to get them to fix the dumb thing yet.

To top it off, earlier this week, the AC unit at the radio station I work went out too. We've been trying to blow cool air from the front end of the building to the back end of the building in an attempt to lower the temp.

To top it off even further, the AC unit in the front of the building just went out today too! Guess it got tired and decided to call it a day.

I guess what kinda bugs me is that I told maintenance about the problem at my house a month ago and they didn't do anything about it. Now that the temperature is rising and more units are breaking, they're super busy and probably won't get around to fixing it for another 2-3 weeks. They said they won't even get around to fixing the AC units at the radio station until late next week.

Crazy, wonderful month!

It's been quite the month! Sorry for not posting in so long! A couple weekends ago, my older sister treated me, a friend of mine, and 3 other people to see THE LION KING!!!!! It was beyond amazing. I was a complete idiot -- whooping and clapping the entire time. I'm sure the people in front of me wished they had found somewhere else to sit. Poor people! Hey, I couldn't help it! The costumes and music were insane!

I'd have to say my favorite songs were "Be Prepared" and - of course - "Circle of Life." It was so funny...everyone knows that famous opening line: "Nan ts'ngonya ma bakithi baba!" When the the light dimmed, everyone started clapping because we all knew it was coming. (By the way, according to my Lion King program book, that phrase actually means, "Here comes the lion, folks!" Um...sounds better in African, don't you think? Ha!) I have to admit, I actually teared up at the end of the song when all the animals bowed...it was so beautiful =)

Here's a YouTube video I found of a performance of "Circle of Life." It's worth watching!!

Also, here (finally!) are some pics of new my home.

Who's trash is it anyway?

What a crazy week! I can't wait to be all moved in. Hopefully, I'll have all my stuff over to the new place by Tuesday. (I can't move my furniture in until Saturday.)

I went over to hang some curtain rods on Sunday and found out my former neighbor's had left me a big present. They were kind enough to line a wall in the back living room with trash. Among the treasures they left behind included moldy bread, a container with leftover food, four full trash bags, and several full boxes. I was stunned. I mean, I've known these people for years and they are the "neat" type. I couldn't believe they'd just leave all that stuff. In a note, they said that maintenance would come get it. Ha! When maintenance came over on Monday to clean the carpets the guy was not amused. He told me he'd haul it away for me though. Well, Monday when I came home from work I saw all the trash piled in the front yard. Huh?!? The city will not haul any trash that isn't in the large outdoor trash cans so I knew that trash wasn't going anywhere. I called my neighbor, left a voicemail, and decided to wait until the next day to figure out what to do. While I was doing some projects at the new place, though, I saw a homeless man digging through the trash that had been just piled there. I figured if the guy saw something he could use or sell, more power to him, but figured I didn't need him hanging around and needed to do something with all the garbage after he left. While I was waiting for him to leave, a police car pulls up and he stops the guy before he can run away. I was like oh great!! A few minutes later, another police officer shows up and they both start talking to him. After several minutes, the guy grabs his bag and hurries off down the street. I wound up knocking on two of my other neighbor's doors and asking them if I could use their outdoor trash cans to deal with all the garbage. They graciously said yes even though it was Monday and trash pickup isn't until Friday. We now have FOUR large outdoor trashcans overflowing with my former neighbor's stuff. Keep in mind, I love my former neighbors and they were VERY good to me (watched my dog a LOT), but this whole trash thing was just a little too much.

I can't wait until trash day on Friday...

My new place!

I'm SO EXCITED! I've wanted this duplex for TWO YEARS and I move in next weekend! Whoo hoo! Here's a tour of my future home. My neighbors haven't moved out yet, so excuse all the stuff you see that they haven't packed yet.

I'm moving!

It's an answer to prayer! I'm going to be able to move next door to a much bigger place. It's got two living rooms, two bedrooms, two full baths (the master bath has his and hers sinks! hee hee!), dishwasher (hallelujah!), etc. The carpet's pretty bad, but I'll just live with that for now.

Here's a question for you...I found a place in town where I can buy a queen-sized mattress/boxspring set for about $350. Is an inexpensive mattress like that okay for a guest room. Do you guys think those things hold up okay? I'd love to know if you guys have ever bought one and what your experience was like. The other place in town has one but it would cost about $750.

A quick tour...

Well, I've been getting emails asking what exactly I do here in good old Georgia. I thought I'd shoot a quick video for those of you who are interested in seeing where I work and the fun people I work with.

A Survey in Pictures

Okay, I saw this on Missy's blog and decided to steal her idea!

Here's how it works:
1. Go to http://www.photobucket.com/ (don't sign in)
2. Type in your answer to the questions below in the "search" box
3. Use only the first page of photos
4. Click on THE PICTURE you like best
5. Copy the html and paste for the answer
1. What is your first name?
(I typed in "Debbie" and this came up! Scaaaaary!
2. What is your favorite thing to do?
(I love watching tv with my dog Candy snuggled up to me. I know, I know...that's a rabbit in the picture!)

3. What is your relationship status?
4. What is your favorite color?
(I like blues and blacks. Not to be confused with being black and blue!)

5. Who is your favorite celebrity?
(That's Peyton Manning for all you non-football geeks!)
I also love...
(Carol Burnett)

...and...

(Jackie Gleason)

6. What are you listening to right now?
(Lost...the tv show. Actually, it's paused on the dvr right now so I don't actually hear it right at this second.)
7. What is your favorite movie?

I have several!!
Um....let's go with...
(Duh...Pirates of the Caribbean)
Pintel: Your'e supposed to be dead!
Jack Sparrow: Am I not?

...and...
(The Princess Bride)

Inigo Montoya: That Vizzini, he can *fuss*.
Fezzik: Fuss, fuss... I think he like to scream at *us*.
Inigo Montoya: Probably he means no *harm*.
Fezzik: He's really very short on *charm*.
Inigo Montoya: You have a great gift for rhyme.
Fezzik: Yes, yes, some of the time.
Vizzini: Enough of that.
Inigo Montoya: Fezzik, are there rocks ahead?
Fezzik: If there are, we all be dead.
Vizzini: No more rhyming now, I mean it.
Fezzik: Anybody want a peanut?
Vizzini: DYEEAAHHHHHH.

8. What is your favorite beverage?
(A nice cup o' joe)

9. What is your dream vacation?

10. What is your favorite dessert?

(A strawberry-banana smoothie with a shot of protein. The ones in this picture look pretty nasty, though!)

11. What do you want to do when you grow up?

12. One word to describe yourself.

My sister's amazing trick!

My little sister does a pretty cool magic trick. And YES...it's just a TRICK! Don't freak out. =) She was disappointed that she and my dad ran out of "blood." Ha! Since my family lives up north, I wasn't there when they did this, but I'm pretty sure I know how this is done. Even so, I doubt I could make it look this good!

How to fold a shirt

Even though it's in Japanese, this short video needs no explanation.

Mike Huckabee and this whole presidential thing

I really expected Mike Huckabee to drop out of the race or suspend his campaign today. I'm not super into politics but I like a lot of what I see in Gov. Huckabee. My only problem is that I'm afraid he's starting to look a little...shall we say...ridiculous. It's clear he's not going to get enough delegates to win this thing (unfortunately) and McCain is just sitting back and waiting for him to surrender.

That brings me to my next conundrum: what do to when McCain wins the nomination. I've heard a lot of people say that they can't, with clear conscience, vote for McCain, Clinton, or Obama so they're just not gonna vote at all. Hmmm... Do I forgo my right to vote or vote for someone who doesn't stand for what I believe? Neither option seems very good.

Getting to know me...again.

For the handful of you that I've actually done a good job keeping in touch with, you just can ignore this post. However, I daresay the vast majority of you have no idea where I am, what I do, or - gasp! - even that I'm still alive. I'd say "My bad!" but I won't because I hate that phrase (almost as much as I hate "jump the shark").

I live in Northeast Georgia and work for a radio station here. I do most of their audio editing, fill in on-the-air for people, host the Saturday morning children's programming, and a whole myriad of other things. Hey, you never knew you had a celebrity for a friend, did you? (Trust me...my paycheck reminds me every month that I'm no celebrity.)

I'd love to hear from all of you so let me know if you'll be keeping up with this blog! Since the blog is new, obviously the layout will be under construction for a while. Let me know if something I did with the layout looks idiotic.
